PORTLAND – Dustin Brisson just stood and watched.

Binghamton reliever Mike Cox walked Brisson on four straight pitches to force in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Portland Sea Dogs topped the Mets 5-4 at Hadlock Field Saturday night.

Kevin Youkilis walked with one out in the tenth and Kelly Shoppach singled to left.

After Justin Sherrod struck out, Tony Schrager walked to load the bases.

Binghamton manager John Stearns then summoned the left-handed Cox to face Brisson, who got his second walkoff walk of the season.

Portland starter Tim Kester left with a two-run lead after throwing four-hit ball over six innings.

Erratic reliever Mike Nicolas then proceeded to walk five of the seven batters he faced, including forcing home two runs by throwing eight straight balls.

Nicolas, who also had a balk and a wild pitch, threw just nine of his 33 pitches for strikes.

The right-hander has walked 26 and struck out 24 in 18 innings of work.

Chris Basak’s solo home run just inside the foul pole down the left-field line leading off the top of the fourth inning gave the Mets a 1-0 lead.

Schrager answered that with a blast off his own in the bottom of the inning, a two-run shot into the net in left-center field to put the Sea Dogs on top.

Portland added a pair of runs an inning later.

Jeremy Owens led off with a single and stole second.

One out later, Carlos Leon singled to left as Johnson waved Owens home.

The throw from left-fielder Tony Calabrese appeared to have Owens easily, but home plate umpire Mike Belin ruled him safe setting off an animated discussion with Stearns.

Youkilis’ sacrifice fly gave Portland a three-run lead.

The Mets got one back on two singles and a groundout in the sixth.

Sea Dogs notes: The game was delayed 82 minutes by rain….Josh Stevens (7-1, 2.15 ERA) opposes Binghamton’s David Mattox (1-0, 2.66) in the series finale today at 1 p.m.
