MILLINOCKET – The Maine Tourism Association presented awards at its 82nd annual meeting here May 14.

The Hall of Fame Award winner was Barbara Whitten, executive director of the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The association honored Lindsay Copeland of InnVisibility for the Best of the Web Award for an outstanding contribution to tourism through electronic media.

Donna Moreland-Fichtner, executive director for the Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau, received the Hospitality and Tourism Marketing Award for her work on the National Folk Festival.

Regional Awards went to the following: Aroostook: Rita Canaan, Can Am Sled Dog Race; Down East & Acadia: Mike & Pat McCabe, The Puffin Pines Country Gift Store; Greater Portland & Casco Bay: Susan Abraham; Kennebec & Moose River Valleys: Scott Cowger, Maple Hill Farm B & B; Maine Lakes & Mountains: J. Harold McQuade; Mid Coast: Heather O’Bryan, Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce; Southern Maine Coast: Seaside Vacation Rentals; and The Maine Highlands: John Holden, Eastern Maine Development Corp.

Nearly 100 tourism leaders from throughout the state attended the meeting. The Maine Tourism Association represents more than 1,700 businesses throughout the state.
