Session on museum

RUMFORD – A meeting to continue exploring interest in creating a pulp and paper museum will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at the Rumford Library. The local economy and cultural heritage in the Androscoggin River valley has grown around the forestry industry and associated activities.

The goal of this effort is to create a venue to promote interest, display artifacts and develop programs that will illustrate the growth, evolution and importance of the paper industry and the people who pioneered the early industry in western Maine.

Developing a museum can create a way to preserve this heritage and provide another avenue to promote tourism. To create a museum it will be necessary to establish an organizing committee that will represent the people of the River Valley and the Jay-Livermore Falls area.
