AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library held an April auction to support the campaign to restore and expand the historic facility on Court Street. Modern Woodmen of America gave the amount of $2,003, matching the funds raised.
Modern Woodmen local representatives work with nonprofit organizations to support worthy projects and programs.
“We are delighted with the excellent results of our first silent auction,” said Library Director Roe Waltos. “A key element of our success was the generous support from Modern Woodmen of America and the volunteer efforts of District Representative Jean Fournier. Everyone enjoyed this spring event, and we so appreciate the community spirit of businesses like Modern Woodmen.”
The Auburn Public Library is in the final phase of its $7 million campaign. The new facility will provide larger, more accessible spaces for the collection, an expanded children’s department, a specially designed teen area, a café, a large multi-purpose room for community programs and meetings, enhanced computer technology and quiet cubicles for study and research.
To date, more than 1,400 donors have contributed to the campaign, and the Kresge Foundation has made a major award to the library’s effort. Groundbreaking is planned for June 2004.
