A recent guest column from State Sen. Ethan Strimling about federal tax cuts came from a legislator who is part of an organization that can’t seem to get out of its own economic way.

A Legislature that’s bigger in numbers than that of the state of California and continues to drag its collective feet on the subject of tax reform.

A Legislature that continues to dole out money to school districts and municipalities and then take it back.

I, for one, am sick and tired of hearing liberals whine about how they have to give me back my own money. About how if you pay more it’s a shame that you should get more back, and how it’s a crime that those who don’t pay don’t get back.

I’m not in the 20 percent bracket but I feel I can do a better job with my money than the federal government or Sen. Strimling.

The press and the Legislature bellyache about the Maine Municipal Association tax reform proposal, but it has accomplished what it set out to do. To get those in Augusta off of their collective backsides and moving on tax reform.

This is their chance and, if they blow it, shame on them. It’s more justification for term limits.

As for Sen. Stimling, perhaps he should be concerned with the office he holds currently, not one he wants.
