I am writing in regard to the front page story, “Gay man elected Episcopal Bishop,” (June 8).

As I see it, police officers, lawyers and judges are bound by the law books, doctors have to adhere to policies and even Realtors have guidelines that they must follow. Why does it come as some surprise that a minister would be held to a biblical standard?

Someone should notify Rev. Gene Robinson of the Episcopalians of New Hampshire that he is in gross error. His views on the homosexual lifestyle as being acceptable are based on humanistic teachings and not biblical doctrine.

He quotes, “We will show the world how to be a Christian community.” This comes from a man who is divorced and now resides with his gay partner.

I am also outraged that Rev. David Jones, rector of St. Paul’s, said that he was thrilled with the selection of Robinson as the first openly gay person to serve as a bishop of an Episcopal diocese, even though he recognizes biblical language speaks against homosexuality.

In my opinion if the minister doesn’t have to follow the rule book of the Holy Bible, then police officers, lawyers, judges, doctors, Realtors, etc., should not be frowned upon when they do not conform to codes of ethics.

How ridiculous!
