BRYANT POND – Whitman Library of Bryant Pond invites the public to a program featuring Jeanette Baldridge, who will be reading from recent works, at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 20.
Her work has been published in various literary and national journals and magazines. She is an essayist and writes a monthly column in the Lewiston Sun Journal Sunday. She teaches adult education for SAD 44 and is adjunct writing faculty at the University of Maine.
Finnish service
PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church on Buckfield Road (Route 117) in South Paris invites the public to its annual Finnish service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. The preacher will be Pastor Henry Leino. This service is conducted entirely in Finnish.
Trinity was founded in 1912 by Finnish immigrants and once a year celebrates that heritage by holding a worship service in “the mother tongue.” The church is now comprised of people from many ethnic heritages.
Coffee and nisu bread, along with other goodies, will be served following the service. For more information call the church office at 743-6906.
Observing solstice
BERLIN, N.H. – Fun in the Sun at the Park will celebrate the summer solstice from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Northern Forest Heritage Park on the banks of the Androscoggin River.
There will be tours of the Logging Camp Museum, kayak demonstration, river tours, horseshoes, badminton, three-legged races, petting pen and arts and crafts. Becky Glover-Law will read children’s stories.
There will also be music by fiddler John Roberge, Lindley Kinerk and Tim Dion. Those attending can bring a picnic lunch. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 and free for under 6. Tickets will be discounted for Coos County residents.
Rug hooking
BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Historical Society will have Janet Conner teaching primitive rug hooking at Narramissic this summer.
A workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, and Tuesday, Aug. 12. The fee is $35 plus cost of any materials.
Bring your own materials, or kits will be available from $20 to $50.

Cajun music
BERLIN, N.H. – Limited advance tickets for the Offshore Aces Cajun Band concert to be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Northern Forest Heritage Park Amphitheatre are now available at Gills Flower Shop and Northern White Mountain Chamber of Commerce in Berlin, and Wonderland Book Store in Gorham. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 and free for children under 12.
Making jewelry
