Dirigo graduating senior Jasmine Brooks walked 7:45.34 to capture the championship title in the girls one mile racewalk in the heat and humidity at the Adidas Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Raleigh, N.C., over the weekend.

Kristen Landau, a senior from Port Jefferson, N.Y., placed second.

Renee Fortin of North Yarmouth Academy took fifth with a time of 8:28.34, while Winthrop’s Maddy O’Brien placed sixth in 8:49.43.

Lauren Forgues of Boothbay finished eighth and Jessie Smith of Mt. Blue was ninth.

In the boys race, Mark Dennett of Winthrop placed third in 8:15.28.

Overall, four of the six Maine racewalkers who competed earned high school All-American honors, bringing this year’s total to 11.

The total number of athletes that have earned that distinction over the last 10 years is 29, representing 17 different schools. Those athletes have combined for 94 All-American Awards.

Brooks will be attending the University of Wisconsin at Parkside next year on a racewalking/cross-country scholarship.
