RUMFORD – Selectmen will consider requests for a handicapped parking space and for a new crosswalk when they meet Thursday.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Municipal Building. Jim Thibodeau, who was reappointed chairman after his re-election last week, will preside. Jolene Lovejoy was reappointed vice chairwoman.

Town Manager Robert Welch said the board will decide whether to grant a request to install a crosswalk at the foot of Lincoln Avenue near the Rumford/Mexico Bridge. There is a crosswalk a few hundred feet up the avenue, he said.

Roland Patenaude has requested the designation of a handicapped parking space at 234 Knox Ave.

Welch said the board may also begin a discussion, or set it for a later meeting, on the possible construction of a skating rink at the so-called old ball field along Falmouth Street.

Residents last week voted by a 3-to-1 margin for a new rink. The non-binding vote was meant to provide direction to the Board of Selectmen, not necessarily set a mandate.

Also on the agenda are award of contracts for new pickup and dump trucks, action on a liquor license request and setting a special meeting to finish up end-of-year fiscal matters.
