WOODSTOCK – With the approval of three construction contracts by selectmen Tuesday, the 75-by-45-foot addition to the town’s fire station is ready to get under way.
The first contract was awarded to Martie Morgan of Hanover, who will do the cement foundation and slab. The cost is set at $15,500.
The board authorized Town Manager Vern Maxfield to order the precut steel building from Brown Construction of Portland for $49,429.
Maxfield said it will be eight weeks before the building arrives, “so that means it will be here sometime in September, which gives us plenty of time to get the cement work done and ready for the building.”
A final contract went to Woodstock Oil Co. for installation of the heating system. That contract carries a price tag of $12,000.
Maxfield explained the excavation work will be done by the town crew and members of the Fire Department plus probably hiring local excavation contractor Ken Koskala with his excavator for a day to assist in preparing for the foundation.
The fire station includes the town highway garage. The expansion will provide a meeting room, a handicapped accessible bathroom, a kitchen and space for larger fire fighting equipment.
