FARMINGTON – Fire damaged a $150,000 self-contained pulp loader early Wednesday. A state fire investigator was called in to help determine the cause of the blaze.
The fire started around the motor, said Fire Rescue Chief Terry Bell.
Seventeen firefighters rushed to the E.J. Carrier’s wood-chip yard on Hemlock Road, off Town Farm Road, to squelch a fire that was shooting flames a couple hundred feet in the air, Bell said.
Bell said he could see the flames from Town Farm Road. A few drivers had come to the wood yard, noticed the fire and reported it at about 3:47 a.m., Bell said.
Since a diesel line had burned off the large piece of machinery – a Tanguay, it was pumping straight diesel into the flames, Bell said. Firefighters poured foam and water on the blaze to extinguish it. The fire crews and two trucks cleared the scene at about 5:30 a.m.
Bell said the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.
Through interviews, Bell said, it was determined it does not appear to be suspicious.
