Levi Hutchins sustained cuts and a concussion when he crashed his three-wheeled ATV.

CARTHAGE – A 13-year-old Dixfield boy was injured Wednesday afternoon when he was thrown from the all terrain vehicle he was driving.

Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesman Mark Latti said Levi Hutchins was driving up Winter Hill Road about 12:30 p.m.

When he started down the hill he went off the side of the dirt road then down an eight-foot embankment where the three-wheeler hit a large rock, catapulting him to the ground.

A passenger, David Dakin, 13, either jumped or fell off before the 1982 Honda ATV crashed. He was unharmed.

Hutchins sustained bumps and bruises and a concussion. He was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was treated and released Thursday night, said Latti.

Latti said the incident is under investigation.

Hutchins was wearing a helmet that flew off when the boy was tossed over the boulder.

Latti said wardens who are investigating the incident considered Hutchins “extremely lucky.”

Members of the Maine State Police, and wardens David Chabot and Brock Clukey responded to the accident. Dixfield fire and rescue were also at the scene.
