FRYEBURG – The second annual Fryeburg Fine Arts Festival will be held Saturday, with Sunday as the rain date. In either case, it’s already bigger than last year. The 2002 event drew 30 artists while this year 42 artists from Maine and New Hampshire are registered to exhibit.

Bradley Park’s picturesque gazebo on the Main Street of Fryeburg is the location and the festivities will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Numerous formats will be available including oils, water colors, pastels, acrylics, etchings, photographs and fine pencil drawings.

A new program this year is called “Purchase Prize Awards.” Business sponsors were sought in the planning stage to support the event by making part of their donation the down payment on a work of art.

Purchase Prize images will be awarded ribbons with the sponsoring business on them. The program is a way to bring the business community and its creative resources in closer contact. Purchase Prize sponsors are Main Gas, Crest Chevrolet and Cardinal Printing. Artists will also compete for four levels of cash awards including best in show.

Fryeburg Academy’s Fine Arts Department is going to exhibit student work with the winner getting a Savings Bond from Key Bank.

All winners will be announced by noon. Following the announcement, musical entertainment will be provided by Neal Nutting and Heather Pierson.

Nutting’s P-Nut theatre will run four weeks this year starting July 14. “Between Lives” is Pierson’s most recent CD. Singer Laurie Turley will be performing with husband, Ken, and their family. Tina Titzer’s Dance Studio will be represented with a collaborative dance performance.

Food will be plentiful throughout the day from a variety of vendors and will culminate in a turkey dinner at the Fryeburg Fire Department at 5 p.m. Fair sponsors are Fryeburg Academy, Pike & Dahl, Insurance Co., D’s Pizza, Dearborn Precision Tubular Product Inc., Dr. N. Scott Ferguson, State Farm Insurance and the Oxford House.
