Items on the warrant include road striping and Fire Department requests.

OTISFIELD – Residents will not get the opportunity to vote on the newly revised Comprehensive Plan during a special town meeting Thursday night.

Last week, when the Board of Selectmen reviewed the town meeting warrant, it pulled the article. Following the public hearing on the plan earlier this month, selectmen requested the plan be reviewed by town counsel. Selectmen’s Assistant Marianne Izzo-Morin informed the board the town attorney questioned the legality of the document.

The attorney is reviewing the document, and selectmen said they plan to bring any concerns to the Comprehensive Plan Committee before moving toward adoption of the plan.

There will be no hearing on the plan before town meeting.

Residents will act on articles calling for spending $3,000 for road striping and $2,500 to upgrade the town office computer system from DOS to Windows.

The three other articles are Fire Department requests. The first is for $5,976, a 10 percent match, for a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant the department has applied for.

The total grant is for $59,762 and the money will not be spent unless the grant is awarded to the Fire Department.

The second article calls for $155,000 for a new E-One Fire Truck. The final article calls for money to pay the final principal and interest payment on the 1996 E-One Fire Truck.

This article will only be voted on if the article to purchase a new truck is approved. The article will avoid the community paying for two firetrucks at the same time. It will also save the community interest charges, which would be due if it were paid off as scheduled in April 2004.

The special town meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Otisfield Community Hall.
