SCARBOROUGH — Hannaford Bros. Co. announced recently that it is offering customers access to an additional 30,000 items beyond those available in its stores.

The new service, At Your Request, affords Hannaford customers the opportunity to use either their computers or telephones to order groceries, international foods, natural and organic products, baby needs, pet foods, and many other items, and have those items delivered directly to their homes.

“This is a really exciting service,” said Hannaford corporate spokeswoman Caren Epstein. “Suppose you’ve traveled to another country or another part of this country and sampled a food or beverage you really liked, but were unable to find when you returned home. With At Your Request, you can go to the Hannaford Web site, www.hannaford,com, click on the At Your Request link, and have the product delivered directly to your home.”

“At Your Request offers items not available in Hannaford stores. It is an additional service offering thousands of non-perishable and shelf-stable products that you can receive by Federal Express, UPS, or other delivery service at your home of office, and pay for using Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit cards or with Visa or MasterCard debit cards.”

Epstein explained, “If you can’t find the item you want either at a Hannaford store or through At Your Request, simply complete the Special Request Form with as much information as you have about the product and an At Your Request customer service representative will get back to you within 10 business days regarding product availability.”

Hannaford partnered with neXpansion, a private company that provides customized e-commerce, fulfillment, and “hard-to-find” merchandising expertise to manufacturers and retailers to develop At Your Request.

There is no membership fee for customers associated with the service, and sales tax and shipping costs will be automatically displayed during the checkout process.

Hannaford Bros. Co., based in Scarborough, operates 119 supermarkets and food and drug combination stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Massachusetts.
