NORWAY – Selectman Russell Newcomb said Tuesday that he is doing as well as can be expected while awaiting a heart operation.

Newcomb had a heart attack Friday evening.

“I was installing an air conditioner and started having chest pains,” Newcomb said from Maine Medical Center in Portland. “I went to Stephens Memorial Hospital and there didn’t appear to be much damage, but they figured I had some, so I went to MMC.”

He said an angiogram was done Monday and doctors determined a triple-bypass was needed. He said his procedure would be done Thursday.

Newcomb is chairman of the Board of Selectmen and earlier this month was re-elected to a second term.
