FARMINGTON – The Farmington Public Library is offering a Summer Reading Program for children of all ages. Prizes, including Gifford’s ice cream cones and books from Barnes and Noble, will be given as an incentive for children to keep reading over the summer. The program is under way and will continue until Aug. 1. The preschool story hour for ages 3-5 will continue Fridays at 10:15 a.m. with the exception of the last two weeks of August.
Baby Rhymes, a group for babies and toddlers, will also continue Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. with the exception of the last two weeks of August.
People may participate in the summer programs without a library card. Farmington taxpayers pay nothing to borrow books to take home. There is a $15 charge for nonresident households.
Film in the park
WELD – Mount Blue State Park evening programs begin June 27 with the showing of the movie, “Alaska,” at 8 p.m. in the Amphitheater. A slide show, The Allagash Wilderness Waterway, as a wilderness river and a part of the National Wild and Scenic River System, will be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 28, in the Amphitheater. Donations will be accepted.
Maine antique
FARMINGTON – The Maine Antique Tractor Club will hold its 8th annual Antique Tractor Festival June 27-29 at Farmington Fairgrounds. Gates open at 8 a.m. and continue into the evening on Friday and Saturday. The event concludes around 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be more than 100 antique tractors and pieces of equipment on display and working. Events include tractor pulling, and pedal tractor pulling, as well as tractor games, skillet throw, hay bale toss, crafters, food, flea market and a large children’s area. Sunday afternoon will feature a tractor equipment consignment auction.
Strawberry festival
LIVERMORE – The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will hold its annual Strawberry Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 28. The event is named for the strawberry shortcake made by Livermore Falls Baptist Church members. Tours of the historic buildings and hay rides will be available, as well as craft demonstrations and sales, an antique farm equipment display, music, an Auburn Rescue Service demonstration and a family area featuring face painting and games. Light lunches will be available at the grill from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the grounds will be $1 for anyone age 2 and older, and free for kids under 2. Golf and auction
FARMINGTON – A golf tournament followed by an auction will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Sandy River Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit the Western Mountains Hockey and Skating Association. Audubon trip
EUSTIS – Western Maine Audubon Society will sponsor a day of birding and canoeing at Flagstaff Lake on Sunday, June 29. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the entrance to Cathedral Pines Campground on Route 27 and join Wendy Howes for a guided birding and canoe trip. Participants must provide their own canoe and gear. It is suggested that participants also bring a lunch, as well as drinking water and adequate equipment for light walking and leisurely canoeing. The cost of the trip is $10 for Audubon members and $15 for non-members. The group size is limited to 15 people. To reserve a spot or to check on weather conditions or possible cancellation, people can call field-trip coordinator Andrea Nurse at 639-4496.

FARMINGTON – Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 30, at the USDA Service Center Conference Room at 107 Park St.
Blood drive
FARMINGTON – A Red Cross blood drive will be held noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Potential blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. SeniorsPlus picnic
WILTON – SeniorsPlus will host an indoor buffet-picnic starting at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at the center on Routes 2 and 4. Country western music will be provided after the meal by Nancy and Bing Crosby. The meal includes hamburger or hot dog on the grill, potato and pasta salad, veggie plate, chops and an ice cream sundae. Diners should call ahead for a reservation. The meal is available on a donation basis for seniors 60 and older, their spouses or people with disabilities. Suggested donation is $3.50. All others are welcome for a fee of $5.
