NORWAY – Melissa Hill has joined the Child Health Center’s Norway office as the Early Intervention Administrative Assistant. In this position Hill will assist the preschool and in-home support directors with day-to-day operations, including but not limited to, enrollment and monthly and quarterly reporting.

Prior to joining the Child Health Center, Hill worked at L.L. Bean in Customer Satisfaction and was the secretary for Auburn’s Adult Education Program. Hill lives in Mechanic Falls with her three sons.

The Child Health Center is a nonprofit charitable organization whose purpose is to help improve the health and well being of children in western and central Maine. The main office is in Norway and branch offices are in Auburn and Rumford.

Garden lecture

SUMNER – There will be a lecture on Gardening in the Shade at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Hedgehog Hill Farm. Mark Silber, author, lecturer and gardener, will discuss important aspects of creating attractive, functional and successful shade gardens. A tour of the gardens where hostas, astilbe, goat’s beard, bergenia and other shade plants grow will clarify some complex aspects of gardening in the shade. Hedgehog Hill gardens are open to the public for strolls, painting and photographing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Mondays. Lectures are held rain or shine and no reservations are needed.

Band concert

BETHEL – The Mahoosuc Community Band presents a program of music for concert band at 7 p.m. Monday, July 7, in the gazebo on the Bethel Common. Included are show tunes, marches and other popular favorites. Rain location is at the West Parish Congregational Church on Church Street.
