LISBON – The Philip W. Sugg Middle School in Lisbon Falls awarded the first “Friend of Education Award” to Lise Tancrede. With this award Tancrede, a mentoring coordinator for the Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, was recognized for her dedication to youth services at the middle school.
Grange session
WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the downstairs hall for a business meeting. Plans will be completed for the annual Grange mystery ride on July 15.
Society speaker
DURHAM – The Durham Historical Society on Royalsborough Road at Southwest Bend will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Old Union Church. Guest speaker will be Philip P. Asselyn of Durham. The topic will be wood turning.
Asselyn has been a wood turner for the past nine years. He is president of the Maine Wood Turners Association.

Drum playshop
LEWISTON – Barbara Gail will present Rhythm Inlet’s World of Drums playshop at the Lewiston Public Library in the Children’s Room from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 10.
Preschoolers and early elementary school children are encouraged to come to the first performance, and third through sixth graders for the second. Tickets for either performance may be picked up free of charge at the library starting Tuesday, July 1.
World of Drums is a facilitated rhythmic experience for all ages, abilities and challenges. Instructor Barbara Gail will be teaching children to use her collection of exotic small hand-drums and percussion instruments. Each performance is expected to last 45 to 60 minutes.

Publication party
LISBON – A publication party for Lisbon Falls author Fred Schwicker’s new book, “Clam Diggahs/Seaford: Tales of a Town Gone By /A Long Island Memoir,” will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Lisbon Falls Library.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Lisbon Libraries and Soleil Lifestory Network. The reception is open to the public, free of charge. For more information, call 353-5454.
