LIVERMORE – A paved entrance way off Route 4 in Livermore leads right to the calm waters of Round Pond. The public access, recently opened, gives one a clear view of the pond and a good launching place for boats.
Several signs at the launch entrance advise boaters of state laws, provide information on protection of wildlife habitats and making sure plants aren’t transferred from one pond to another. There is also no swimming at the launch site.
The new public boat access is one of two on Route 4 in Livermore.
The other launch is located on Long Pond near Round Pond launch.
The latter is located near Waters Hill Road.
The state’s Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department and the town joined together to on the latter project.
The town has agreed to maintain the Round Pond launch area. The Pines Conservation Committee headed up David and Abbe Chabot will need to meet in the next couple weeks, Livermore Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said, to decide what they would like to do this year.
Residents have $3,000 put away for maintenance, which will include a portable toilet and most likely some picnic tables, Schaub said.
