JAY – A Jay man was arrested over the weekend and charged with entering a home without permission and assaulting its two occupants.

Bruce Smith, 43, was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic assault, a misdemeanor account for simple assault and a felony count of Class B burglary for entering the home with the intent to commit a crime.

Jay Police Department officers Dean Couture and Michael Pike responded to a 4:30 p.m. call on Sunday afternoon, alerting them of a domestic assault in progress at a Keep Road residence, said Police Chief Larry White Sr.

When officers arrived at the scene to break up the fight, Smith had left. Police found that a 37-year-old Jay female, a former acquaintance of Smith, had been assaulted, said White, as had her male companion.

The officers then proceeded to Smith’s home, where Pike arrested him and booked him at the Franklin County Detention Center, where he posted his $10,000 security bail later that day.

He will make his first appearance on the three charges at District Court in Farmington on July 3.
