LEWISTON – Residents of Tall Pine Apartments will meet tonight with housing officials and a Boston developer to talk about tenancy and rent changes.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center cafeteria.
Discussion will center on the transfer of ownership of Tall Pines 1 & 2 from Coastal Enterprises Inc. to the Caleb Foundation, a developer from Boston.
According to the Downtown Neighborhood Association, some people have lived at Tall Pines for more than 25 years and are being told they no longer qualify to live there.
Most of the residents fear that even if they are allowed to stay the increase in monthly rent, with some apartments going as high as $917, will force them onto the streets.
Residents hope that the Caleb Foundation, the Lewiston Housing Authority and the City of Lewiston will be able to answer their questions.
A petition signed by more than 130 residents of Tall Pines seeks a delay of the sale of Tall Pines 1 & 2 until they get answers.
