WELD – The public is invited to a slide talk on Cuba at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Kawanhee Inn.
Maureen Farr and Rufus Hellendale recently returned from a month of independent travel in Cuba. The two Maine residents visited six towns, staying in private homes most of the time. While using bicycles to explore around each town, they encountered many Cubans.
“The Cuban people have so little materially and they give so much of themselves,” Farr said. “They are open, loving, joyous people.” She said the Cubans are very curious about the United States and, while they don’t like the embargo, they do like Americans.
This was the second trip for Farr and Hellendale, who first traveled to Cuba in 1998, a month after the pope’s visit.
Refreshments and a discussion period will follow their presentation. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Tumbledown Conservation Alliance.
