LEWISTON – The Rev. Douglas E. Taylor, director of the Jesus Party, invites the community to celebrate history, culture and the nostalgia of an old-fashioned gospel tent revival camp meeting in Kennedy Park at 7 p.m. from July 11 to the 20.
Taylor says, “Throughout the centuries tent-style gospel meetings have been popular with all ages, and have been an important part of the Protestant Reformation and Christian heritage.
Anyone interested in viewing the erecting of the traveling tabernacle by the students of the Deliverance Bible Institute should be in the park in the afternoon hours of July 10.
Long-time friend and supporter of the Jesus Party, the Rev. James Reynolds Sr., pastor, evangelist, educator and influential Pentecostal pioneer in the state, will conduct the services.
Reynolds graduated from Zion Bible Institute of Rhode Island in 1955 and immediately began a traveling evangelistic tent ministry. He is the senior pastor of the Deliverance Center of Portland and oversees its outreach program for the homeless, and recovering drug addicts and alcoholics. Over the years he has done mission work in Canada, the Bahamas, South America, Haiti and throughout the Continent of Africa.
