1935 – 2003

LEWISTON – Mary Lou Marquis, 68, of 388 Harris Hill Road, Poland, died Tuesday, July 2, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lewiston on Feb. 22, 1935, she was the daughter of Arthur and Alice Keenan McLellan. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School and the Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing.

On Aug. 13, 1955, she was married to Raymond A. Marquis. In her younger years she was employed as a registered nurse at Central Maine General Hospital, and then devoted the rest of her life to raising her family and helping her husband run his business, Marquis Electric.

She loved to be busy and was always ready to lend a hand to help someone. She enjoyed life and found great pleasure playing the slot machines at the casinos with her husband and traveling companions, Gabbie and Cecile Giguere.

She also enjoyed exercising and socializing with her friends at the YMCA and at SPARC. She was proud of her family, and cherished her 14 grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and her many friends.

She leaves behind her husband of 47 years; three daughters, Maureen Marquis of Stamford, Conn., Patricia Rojas and husband Pedro of Auburn, and Kate Tufts and husband Matthew of Lewiston; four sons, Wayne and wife Patricia of Mechanic Falls, Daniel and wife Sandra of Lewiston, Jeffrey and wife Tracey of Greene, and Mark and wife Lisa of Lewiston; two sisters, Constance Akerley and Catherine McLellan both of Arizona; three brothers, Terrence McLellan and wife Monique of Lewiston, James McLellan and his companion Helen Rodrique of Lewiston, and Michael McLellan of Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents.
