RUMFORD – Officers and members of Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 held a flag day ceremony on June 14 in their lodge room because of inclement weather.
The “Star Spangled Banner” was sung under the leadership of Elaine Michaud.
Officers and members each gave a short excerpt of the history of previous flags and as they were telling about them the Boy Scouts of Troop 580 presented them.
Guest speaker was John Kezal, post commander of American Legion Post 24, an Elk with the Rumford Lodge and liaison person for the Vets Home in South Paris. Esteemed Loyal Knight Sandra Welch read a letter she received from Rep. Mike Michaud voicing his thoughts on Flag Day.
The ceremony was closed with the singing of “God Bless America” with Elaine Michaud.
Lunch was served in the dining room by Dick Welch.
