1914 – 2003

PORTLAND – Urbain “Jack” Roberge Sr., 88, of Forest Ave., formerly of Gorham, died July 2, at a Portland hospital.

Born October 1914, in Biddeford, he was the son of Stanislas and Georgianna Blaire Roberge and attended Biddeford schools, graduating from St. Louis High School.

He was a barber for a period of time with his father, following that he owned and operated the IGA market in Saco, then moved his business to Main Street in Westbrook.

At the age of 50, he went to work for New York Life Insurance Co., where he worked until retirement at the age of 70. For many years, Mr. Roberge was the manager at the Patio Park Mobile Home Park, in Gorham.

He married Eleanor Blair-Garland on April 7, 1973, the couple has been together for 30 years. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, in Gorham, was a member of the Portland Elks Club and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Blair-Garland Roberge of Portland; two sons, Norman P. Roberge and his wife Rita of Biddeford and John Stephen Roberge and his fiancée, Lianne of Edge Water, N.J.; two daughters, Doris Tarbox and her husband, Ralph of Granby, Conn., and Susan F. Bosse and her husband, Donald of Mechanic Falls; two stepsons, Warner L. Garland, and his wife Joan of Ocala, Fla., and Robert B. Garland and his wife Priscilla of Hollis; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Urbain Roberge Jr. in 2000; three sisters, Annabelle, Sister Aldea and Rena.
