FARMINGTON – A 22-year-old Farmington man was charged with attempted murder Monday night after his mother drove herself to the hospital with a gunshot wound in the chest.

Joshua Osborne surrendered to police in Farmington following a search by Farmington, Franklin County and state police.

Janette Osborne, 46, of 172 Osborne Road in Farmington and also of Colorado Springs, Colo., was in good condition Monday afternoon at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The woman was able to drive herself to the hospital despite being shot in the chest, Farmington Police Chief Richard Caton III said.

Caton added that the 22-year-old was being held at the jail overnight and is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

Police received a call at about 11:30 a.m. Monday about the shooting.

The three police agencies fanned out in the search of Joshua, who was described as weighing 130 pounds, 5 feet 2 inches tall with blond hair and blue eyes.

Officials initially said that he was on foot in the Farmington-New Sharon area Monday afternoon in the vicinity of Osborne, Bailey Hill and Weeks Mills roads.

Police didn’t know what caliber gun was used in the shooting, but they believed it to be a long firearm, Caton said.
