ABBOTT (AP) – A Maine Army National Guard helicopter crashed Wednesday afternoon in Piscataquis County, but the pilot was not hurt.

The O-58 Kiowa helicopter was returning from a federal mission when it crashed and sustained heavy damage, WCSH-TV reported. The pilot was the only person on board.

Officials believe engine failure is to blame, and the Department of Defense is investigating, the station reported.
