1962 – 2003

RUMFORD – Steven E. Bernard, 40, of South Rumford Road went home to be with his Lord, July 10, as a result of an ultralight accident.

He was born in Rumford, Dec. 28, 1962, the son of Edgar and Dorothy (Martin) Bernard. He graduated from Rumford High School class of 1981, and went on to Calhoun Engineering School in Easton, Md., receiving a degree in marine engineering in 1986.

For the past 17 years he worked as a merchant mariner, during this time he traveled the world extensively. He was liked by everyone that knew him. He was a very caring and compassionate person who was always helping others.

He was known for his carefree spirit and lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed snowmaching, snowboarding and all the great outdoors had to offer, but his true passion was flying.

He was at his happiest, spending time with his family and friends in the Rumford and Bethel areas. He will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his parents of Rumford; one sister, Sara Perry and husband Larry of Rumford; one brother, Eric Bernard of Westbrook; one nephew, and “Best Pal” Oliver Perry of Rumford.
