TURNER – Josh Armandi ripped a three-run home run to straight away center field in the bottom of the fourth inning to propell Andy Valley to a 10-6 win over Mid-Coast in game one of the double header Saturday afternoon.
Mid-Coast jumped out to a quick four run lead as Mark Rogers blasted a three-run home run, but it was the only serrious threat the Zone III leaders would muster in game one as reliver Scott Wetherell held them in check to post the victory.Armandi added a double while Chad Schrepper and Dustin Gilbert chipped in with a pair of singles in the win.
Game two saw a reversal of fortunes as Mid-Coast logged an 8-6 win behind a complete game pitching effort from Anthony Ames, who surrendered six hits in the victory.Chad Doughty and Rogers who had a pair of hits each in the win.
Jamie Brewer legged out a triple while Brandon Smith and Tony Pirruccello chipped in with a double each for Andy Valley.
Bessey sweeps Poland
SOUTH PARIS – Steven Cummings’ single in the sixth inning helped Bessey Motors to pull out a 6-4 win in game one of a doubleheader over Poland.
Bessey’s Andrew Stacey and Poland’s Kyle Purrington hooked up in a classic pitchers duel for four innings before either team was able to cross the plate. Bessey tallied three runs in the fifth inning and Poland answered in the sixth inning.
Game two saw Bessey complete the sweep with an 11-10 win in eight innings that was decided when Mike Stacey doubled, advanced to third on a fielders choice and scampered home when the Poland first baseman’s throw to third went into foul territory.
Tyler Bryant picked up the win in relief of Stacey.
Monmouth sweeps O’Brien
WINSLOW – Ian McCarthy’s bid for a second consecutive no-hitter fell just short as Monmouth picked up a pair of wins Saturday afternoon. 14-0 and 13-7.
Ben Muniz was the hitting leader collecting three home runs and nine RBI in the sweep. Seth Emery complemented Muniz in the second game with a triple and a home run while Adam Shafstall doubled in both games.
Josh Stroup picked up the win.
