Drivers using I-95 between Gardiner and Brunswick should expect random lane closures between now and early September, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.
“”We’re going to be milling off existing pavement on roadside shoulders and putting down new pavement on various sections of shoulders on both the northbound and southbound lanes between Gardiner and Brunswick,”” explained Guy Berthiaume, MDOT construction manager for the project. “”We also will be rehabilitating all four on and off ramps at Exit 25 in Bowdoinham and the northbound off-ramp at Exit 24 in Topsham.
“”Drivers can expect single-lane closures, with the remaining lane continuing to carry traffic. The exact closure locations will vary as the work progresses, but closures will be frequent from now through September,”” Berthiaume explained.
“”The majority of the closures will be in place only during daytime working hours. The exception will be south of Route 196 in Topsham, where the work will be done at night due to daytime traffic volumes,”” he said.
He urged drivers to approach the work area with care and proceed through it with extra caution. “”It’s for the driver’s own safety as well as the safety of our workers,”” he added.
