FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – The Dallas Burn scored twice in the first 14 minutes and held off the New England Revolution 2-1 on Wednesday.
Ron Cerritos scored in the fourth minute, knocking home a rebound inside the box. It was the third goal of the season for the veteran El Salvadoran player.
Shaver Thomas gave Dallas a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute on a header off a cross from the right wing by Brad Davis. It was the first career MLS goal for Thomas, who played college soccer at Connecticut.
New England closed the deficit to 2-1 in the final minute of the first half when Joe-Max Moore scored his third goal of the season on a pass from Joe Franchino.
The Revolution continued to pressure Dallas throughout the second half, but was unable to solve goalkeeper D.J. Countess.
Moore hit the crossbar with a direct kick in the 52nd minute. Brian Kamler had a point-blank shot denied in the 53rd minute. And Franchino had another direct kick stopped in the 73rd minute. Moore also had five second-half corner kick attempts.
Dallas played short-handed over the final 23 minutes after Thomas was issued his second yellow card.
The Burn improves to 3-8-4 overall, snapping a four-game winless streak and a six-game road winless streak.
New England, which had beaten Dallas in their past four meetings, fell to 5-4-6.
The match was the second in a triple-header at Gillette Stadium, sandwiched between two CONCACAF Gold Cup matches.
