TURNER – The Androscoggin Bassmasters will host the 10th annual Androscoggin River Open Bass Tournament, August 17.

This $7,000 event, starting at the Center Bridge Road boat launch in Turner, will run from from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Entrants should have their boats launched by 7 a.m. in time for the tourney meeting and draw.

Entry fee is $120 for two-person teams. Breakfast will be available and lunch will be served during the weigh-in.

Lewiston Elks pool

LEWISTON – The team of Ray Gagnon-J.R. Levasseur captured top honors in the Wednesday night Lewiston Elks Pool League. Second was the duo of Louis St. Laurent-Don Burpee, followed by Roger McGraw-Paul Pepin.

Apple Valley wins

FARMINGTON – District 5 Babe Ruth champ Apple Valley opened the State Tournament Wednesday with a 7-0 victory over Ararat. Ben Seefeldt hurled a 7-hit shutout, striking out 3. Chip Burnham led the offense with a double, single and 2 RBI. Chris Brewer also doubled and Scott Ogden’s single knocked in a run. Sean Holbrook singled and scored 2 runs. Tavis Hasenfus also singled and scored a run. J. Reilly was a repeat hitter for Ararat. AV was set to play Portland Thursday.
