BETHEL – Thanks to a green light from selectmen at Monday night’s meeting, prices are now available for lots at the West Bethel Flat Road Cemetery.
Deputy treasurer and finance officer Nesta Littlefield presented the board with a list of prices from four cemeteries in Bethel and a suggested rate schedule. The price of a full lot, which is 16-feet-by-16-feet (eight caskets), will be $650. A half lot, at 8-feet-by-16-feet (four caskets), will cost $325, and a quarter lot of 8-feet-by-8-feet to accommodate those wishing to be cremated, will cost $200. Littlefield said Wednesday that a new section in the West Bethel Flat Road Cemetery was given to the town in the 1950s, but only a few lots had been sold. In 1989, the last two lots sold were two half lots for $350, she added.
Tax rate to rise
ANDOVER – At Tuesday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, officials established a new tax rate of $15.70 per $1,000 valuation, a 1.5 mill increase over last year’s rate of $14.20. Accordingly, residents can expect to start receiving tax bills soon, said the town clerk.
