WATERFORD – The Congregational Church on Plummer Hill Road will have special music at the 9:30 service Sunday mornings in July, August and September. Nursery care and programs continue through the summer. Fourteen children attended Vacation Bible School in June. This was a joint effort between the Waterford, North Waterford, Stoneham and Sweden churches and was led by Pastors Anita White and George Frobig.
Sarah Leonard enjoyed a week at the UCC summer camp Pilgrim Lodge in early July after receiving a church scholarship. The church will hold a giant yard sale on the Village Common from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. Karen Fillebrown is in charge of this fund-raiser to benefit the Sunday School and the Church Improvement Fund. The second Summer Hymn Sing and Ice Cream Sundae Social is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Bible school
WOODSTOCK – The Woodstock Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Perkins Valley Road, South Woodstock, will hold Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 4 to 7.
There will be crafts, music, Bible stories, games, snacks, mission stories and ocean-themed nature nuggets. Programs are for children of all ages.
Silber service
SUMNER- Due to the passing of Terry Silber, author, gardener and designer, an Aug. 3 lecture at Hedgehog Hill Farm has been cancelled. Instead, a memorial gathering will take place from 2 to 4 p.m.
Raffle winner
HARRISON – Kris Kaustenin of Harrison was the winner of an Old Town Otter kayak raffled by the Ronald G. St. John VFW Post 9328. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to build a roof over the new handicapped ramp recently added to the building.
Duplicate bridge
NORWAY – At the July 11th meeting of Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge there were 8 tables and a Mitchell movement was played.
First place winners were: North-South, first, Jane Fournier and Nick Karamessinis; second, Adele Bendes and Marcella Allaire; third, Richard Allen and Pete Cummings; and fourth, Errol and Pam Libby. East-West, first, Nancy Farmer and Don Hitch; second, Carol Curran and Sue Dame-Andrews; third, Eric and Marilyn Sahlberg; fourth, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird.
