TURNER – People can learn how to paint like a pro by taking the tole painting for beginners class offered by the SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education Program.

The six-week class will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning July 23. The class will include paint, brushes, printed instructions and other supplies. Stephanie Pooler will be the instructor and the class will be held at Greene Central School. Three projects will be completed.

Another new program on the summer schedule is practical recycling. This is a two-evening exposure to what can “usefully” be done with common household recyclables. Participants will also learn economic homemade alternatives to some store-bought items. Students will complete at least three usable items.

The class will be taught by Duane Leavitt and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, July 29 and 31, at the Adult Learning Center.

If third- through eighth-graders are looking for something to do, SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education has just the thing. From Aug. 4 through 8 there will be an opportunity to learn about field hockey and the skills of the game or to work on improving skills and knowledge. Bring shinguards, mouthpieces, waterbottles and a light snack. Each player will receive a T-shirt.

Students in grades three through six will have classes from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and grades seven and eight from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Leavitt Area High School soccer field and gym.

Also from Aug. 4 through 8 there will be a weeklong gymnastics camp and basic or advanced floor exercise, balance beam, vault and dance. The camp will be held at the Turner Primary School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the instructor will be Tonja Jacobs.

A performance of all events will be held Aug. 8 for parents and friends. Students need to supply their lunch and dress in leotards or shorts and a T-shirt. Gymnastic campers should be at least 5 years old.
