GREENE – The Shaw Brothers will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 24, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Sawyer Memorial. Admission is free and the auditorium is air-conditioned.
Rick and Ron Shaw began their musical careers while undergraduates at the University of New Hampshire in the early ’60s. The Shaws and three classmates formed the Tradewinds and won top honors in 1962 at the first National Intercollegiate Music Competition.
They later changed the name to the Brandywine Singers and became internationally known. The group continued until 1966 when Rick was drafted and Ron joined the Pozo Seco Singers on Columbia Records. Ron left the group just as Rick left the service. They taught school for a time before becoming the Shaw Brothers.
In 1972 the two were asked to help form a group to record the now-famous Coca-Cola jingle, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.”
Two years later the Shaws were offered a contract with RCA Records and traveled to London to record an album, “The Shaw Brothers – Follow Me.” They have remained a duo ever since.
