BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Bruins agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday with veteran forward Ted Donato, who will return to the area where he played high school and college hockey and began his NHL career.

Donato, 34, played six years with the Bruins in the 1990s, but he was traded to the New York Islanders in 1998 and has since played with Ottawa, Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis and New York Rangers.

Donato was drafted by the Bruins in the 1987 NHL entry draft. He played at Harvard from 1987 to 1991, helping the Crimson to win an NCAA championship in 1989 and was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team.

Donato had three 20-plus goal seasons for the Bruins with a career-high of 25 in 1996-1997.

He split last season between the Rangers and their AHL affiliate in Hartford.
