LIVERMORE – Four Livermore firefighters have completed two days of training on operating the new thermal imaging camera and returned here with it.

Capt. Ken St. Pierre, Lt. Andrew Berry, Lt. Scott Richmond and Firefighter Jake Letendre participated in the intensive training at Auburn Fire Department. The training qualifies them to train others to use the camera.

The first day of training included classroom time in the morning and search-and-rescue in the afternoon. The second day included fire behavior, ventilation and search-and-rescue. The Hebron and Livermore fire departments provided fire apparatus.

“It is great to have the new camera in service,” said Chief Randall Berry. “We have an amazing tool that will help us serve our town as well as support fire protection and life safety efforts in surrounding communities.

Thermal Imaging Technology allows firefighters to “see” through smoke and darkness to recognize victims as well as locate the fire and reduce water damage and property loss.

The department now must raise matching funds of $6,000 by Dec. 1 and the remaining $3,135 by Dec. 1, 2004.

Contributions to the fund can be sent to the Town of Livermore Thermal Imaging Camera Fund at 10 Crash Road, Livermore, Maine 04253.
