PARIS – A Mountain View Drive couple are offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever has been pelting their new car with golf balls.

Allyssa Maurice and her husband, John, suspect the vandal or vandals have been using some kind of air-powered tool to propel the golf balls at their 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

In the first incident July 18, a rear taillight was smashed, Allyssa Maurice said. Several other times the young couple noticed someone slowing near their driveway, which is at the end of a dead-end road, she said.

The Maurices, owners of Maurice Dance Theater on Main Street in Paris, were asleep Wednesday just before midnight when they were awakened to find headlights shining into their living room, Allyssa said.

“Then we heard ‘boom, boom, boom’ and later found three dents in the PT Cruiser,” she said.

“I can’t think of anyone who would do this to us,” said Allyssa, who said their house is the only one being targeted. “I just want it to stop, to have whoever is responsible be held accountable for their actions.”

The Maurices called police immediately after the Wednesday incident. Paris Patrolman Matt Dailey searched the area but could find nothing.

Paris Police Chief David Verrier said it is questionable whether the golf balls are being shot out of a machine. “You can throw them hard enough to dent a vehicle,” he said.

Verrier encouraged anyone with information about the case to contact the Paris Police Department at 743-7448.
