Police officer Ken Bryant said Frank Cox’s pickup was totaled.

LIVERMORE FALLS – A Fayette man was slightly injured when his pickup truck collided Tuesday with a train on Main Street. The truck was destroyed, police said.

Frank Cox, 80, was traveling south on Main Street when his truck struck the first train engine at the midway point, Livermore Falls police officer Ken Bryant said.

The accident was reported about 8:15 a.m. at the intersection near Androscoggin Bank.

Cox received a small laceration on his left forearm and was treated by medics from Community Emergency Services, Bryant said.

When Bryant arrived on the scene, he said, the train signals were flashing and the bells were ringing.

The vehicle had to be towed away from the scene before the train could move, he said, because the train’s hand-railing would have struck the truck again if it tried to continue across the tracks.

The train was heading from the mill toward East Livermore when the incident occurred.

Bryant said Cox’s 1997 Ford F150 was totaled. The train received some minor scratches, he said, and bells on side of the train were removed.

Bryant said railroad police were coming up from Boston to investigate the accident.

It’s the second incident of a vehicle colliding with a train this year at the same site.

Both drivers of the vehicles walked away from the accidents.
