PARIS – The Paris Public Library announces the addition of “A Cultural Journey through Books” to the programming. Anyone between ages 12 and 18 is welcome to join.

To assure the availability of books, registration is required; visit the library for a registration form.

The group will meet on the following Wednesdays: Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 22 and Dec. 17. Light refreshments will be provided, with at least one snack reflecting the culture the group is reading about that month.

In another young adult discussion group, participants discuss books they have recently read. For participating, each person will be entered into a prize drawing. The group will meet on the following Wednesdays: Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov 5 and Dec. 3. Light refreshments will be provided.

The young adult summer reading program goal is 100 books read this summer. Turn in a short review of the book and it will be added to the chart. If the goal is reached, Connie Cushing will dye her hair purple, blue or both. The top two readers will receive their choice of a $25 book certificate or an all-day pass to a Bethel adventure center. Everyone who participates will receive a small gift.

The programs are being organized by Cushing, a library volunteer. She is a library student at the University of Maine at Augusta, chairwoman of the Youth Services Section of the Maine Library Association, a member of the Young Adult Library Services Association and a volunteer for the Read with ME Project.
