FARMINGTON – Two men arrested in April for allegedly committing numerous burglaries in seven counties pleaded innocent Thursday.
The charges in Franklin County stem from alleged burglaries and thefts in January at Carthage Town Hall in Carthage and Bear Hill Variety and USA Concrete in Phillips.
Chris Powell, 32, of Mount Vernon and Glen Michaud, 41, of Augusta were each indicted on three counts of burglary and two counts theft Monday.
The two are now being held in Kennebec County Jail on charges stemming from a spree, which supposedly began in October 2002 and ended in April, of nonresidential burglaries, including medical offices, in Kennebec and Somerset counties, among others.
The two have prior burglary convictions, according to court documents. After police had the men under surveillance for several months, they arrested them in April and at the time suspected them of committing up to 80 burglaries.
Farmington attorney Richard Morton acted on behalf of the men’s attorney’s during Thursday’s arraignment.
Justice John McElwee set bail for the men concurrent with what is currently now set in Kennebec County Jail. Michaud is being held on $100,000 cash bail and there is no bail for Powell.
