BOSTON (AP) – Boston College forward Andrew Bryant has been released from the team for academic reasons, BC head basketball coach Al Skinner announced Friday.

Bryant, 20, a native of Denison, Texas, played the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons for the Eagles. This past winter, he played in 30 games, averaging 7.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-7 forward scored in double figures in eight games.

A brief press release from the school on Bryant’s release did not specify the nature of the academic issues. A message left at Skinner’s office Friday was not immediately returned. Messages seeking comment from the college and its athletic department were also not immediately returned.

Bryant, who is listed as a junior in his team biography, is enrolled in the college of arts and sciences.

In November 2001, Bryant was suspended briefly from the team and school for allegedly violating a restraining order.
