Class of ’43 lunch

Chicken barbecue

MEXICO – A special chicken barbecue supper will be held beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Mexico Congregational, United Church of Christ, (Green Church) at 163 Main St. It will be held outside on the back parking lot, unless the weather is inclement, and then it will be held inside in the church Fellowship Hall. Patrons will have their choice of chicken in barbecue tomato sauce or Italian marinade, white or dark meat. Along with the chicken will be baked beans, corn on the cob, and a variety of homemade pies. The cost for adults is $6 and children 12 and under $4.

Bottle drive

PERU – A bottle drive will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, to benefit the Peru SummerFest. Anyone interested in helping out may meet at the Peru fire station at 9 a.m. or phone Yvonne at 562-7496 prior to Saturday.

Bible school

MEXICO – First Baptist Church at 20 Roxbury Road invites all children entering kindergarten through grade six to Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11-15. Parents are also encouraged to attend. Treasures of the Nile – Expedition to Jesus is the theme for this year. Activities include music, games, crafts, snacks and a story from a different Bible time guest each night.

VBS is the kickoff for the monthly children’s parties sponsored by First Baptist Church that are held during the school year. The first is Sept. 15. More information about the Back-to-School Round-Up will be available soon. For more information about VBS or the monthly parties, phone Pastor Bob Peters at 364-8850.
