BANGOR (AP) – A Bangor man has been indicted on a murder charge in the fatal stabbing of a 51-year-old neighbor early this summer.
Walter Travis, 26, also was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury on a charge of aggravated attempted murder for hitting his brother James, 18, with a baseball bat.
Both incidents took place on the night of June 24 while the brothers were living in separate apartments in a building on the corner of Second and Cedar streets. The two got into a scuffle in which the younger brother reportedly stabbed Walter Travis with a pocketknife.
According to James Travis, his brother left the apartment bleeding from the abdomen, leaving a trail of blood to First Street, where Thomas Forni lived. Forni was a friend of Kevin Travis, father of the brothers.
Forni died of stab wounds. Police took Walter Travis into custody in Forni’s apartment, according to neighbors.
