PERU – Selectmen Monday night gave Tim Holland a two-year contract to maintain town cemeteries and an option to renew.

Selectman Jim Pulsifer asked how he proposed to price the contract and Holland said it would remain the same as it is. Holland said with a two-year contract he would be able to get started earlier in the year.

The board was informed by the Oxford Emergency Management Agency that the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments will get the grant money previously awarded and write the Disaster Mitigation Plan for the entire county.

Selectman Andy St. Pierre said they should request a rough draft before it’s finished and that Road Commissioner David Gammon be involved.

After reviewing the modified Adelphia contract for cable television, Pulsifer wanted to modify the five-year contract to give the town opportunity to extend the contract after the five years and not have it automatically renewed.

In other news, a building contract was signed for V. Blunda for a storage shed and installation of an awning. Pulsifer admitted that he missed one month of testing the spring water and that prompted the letter from DHS and the posted information on the spring.

“Other testing has been done and everything was taken care of,” he said.

Selectmen Norman DeRoche said that the spring has been in operation for more than 50 years but with so many state regulations it may become such a problem that people will have to seek alternate water supplies.

Selectmen were given a letter from the Sheriff’s Department asking for support to add another deputy to give Peru more patrols. Pulsifer noted that this would be costly for the town. DeRoche and St. Pierre said they would try to attend the Oxford County commissioner budget caucus on Aug. 27.

Town Clerk Vera Parent reported that she would be filing liens on property for unpaid taxes next Monday.

Selectmen will be reviewing the junkyard ordinance and will be making a list of yards that might fall under the ordinance after the first of September.
