WALES – Androscoggin Pomona Grange 1 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Wales Grange for the annual Youth Night program. The host grange will serve supper at 6:30.

Legion event

SABATTUS – American Legion Post 135 will present entertainer Sammy Angel from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the post home, Island Road.

Members, guests and country western music lovers can dance or listen to her down-home country music.

Tickets are $5 a couple and may be purchased at the post from 5 to 8 p.m. or at the door.

25th reunion

AUBURN – The Edward Little High School class of 1978 will hold a 25-year reunion on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Lost Valley Lodge. A social hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:30 followed by DJ music.

Group photos will be taken and class members may purchase them for approximately $10. The photos will be returned before the close of the evening’s entertainment.

Cost for those attending dinner is $30 a person/$50 a couple. Those arriving after dinner will receive a reduced fee.

LEWISTON – The Lots To Gardens program will hold a recreational day from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Blake and Pierce streets parks. There will be kick ball, tetherball, a barbecue, ice cream making, refreshments and water-sprinkler fun. Those attending are asked to bring a recipe to share. All are invited. Grange outing

AUBURN – Minot Center Grange 266 will hold a summer outing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, for members and guests at Roy’s Hamburger, Route 4. There will be food and mini-golf.

Need volunteers

PORTLAND – The Cumberland County Extension Association is looking for a few good people to serve on the executive committee.

The association provides educational programs for the public in areas of 4-H and youth development, agriculture and horticulture, natural resources, forestry, small woodlot development, family living, food safety and nutrition and small business. One of the major responsibilities is to oversee the county portion of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

The committee typically meets from 7 to 9 p.m. on the third Wednesday every month, except on holidays, usually at the Barron Center. Members serve two-year terms beginning in September.

At present the committee is engaged in finding new office space.

PORTLAND – Members of the community are invited to join Lois Berg Stack, University of Maine Cooperative Extension horticultural specialist, as she leads members of the Maine Tree Club and Master Gardeners on a field trip to the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain, Mass., on Friday, Aug. 22.

A bus will leave from the Sears Auto Center at the Maine Mall at 8 a.m. and will return by 4 p.m. Cost of the trip is $25 a person. Bring a picnic lunch, comfortable shoes and rain gear (just in case).

The arboretum is part of the “Emerald Necklace,” the seven-mile long network of parks and parkways that Frederick Law Olmsted laid out for the Boston Parks Department between 1878 and 1892. For more information visit the Web site at http://www.arboretum.harvard.edu/.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Aug. 4 were: N/S, first, Ellie and George Wigton; second, Helen Little and George Vogt; third, Alberta Turner and Charles Bartlett; fourth, Anna Vitiello and Randy Silver; fifth, Nancy Ferris and Eileen Minnehan

E/W, first, Shirley Banks and Alice Holt; second, Ed Oldham and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Rowena Palmer and Don Johnson; fourth, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird; fifth, Cynthia and Bill Clilfford.

Helen Little and George Vogt scored eighth out of 270 pairs who played in the July 28 STAC tournament in New England.
