9-11 Tribute
FREEPORT – The Freeport Flag Ladies are organizing the second 9-11 Tribute from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, on Main Street. Every Tuesday and on the 11th of every month for a year the women went up the hill to wave the American Flag to keep fresh in people’s minds the need to stand together in remembrance of those who died and the countless heroes who arose from the ashes. All branches of the military joined on Sept. 11, 2002, and the police, rescue and fire departments took part. An open parade of service vehicles drove through with flags flying. People lined the street cheering and waving their flags. The women have continued the flag waving this year and have organized the second annual 9-11 Tribute.
